Shocktober 2010

This truly is the most wonderful time of year. My loser friends and I spend October in a bubble of blood and guts, trying to cram every great horror film and video game into one month. Every country and every language. Discovering things about film I hadn't even considered considering... That's truly what Shocktober is all about.

I'm going to keep track of every film and video game I play this month, so check back often. Also, if it has an asterisk next to it that means I recommend it.

Movies I'd Like You To Watch

Apparently the film I've been waiting 4 years to see titled Enter the Void finally comes out in America today. Enter the Void is the 3rd film from writer/director Gaspar Noé. He is, in my opinion, one of the finest directors working today. His first films I Stand Alone and Irreversible are two of my favorite French films.

Gaspar Noé also wrote and directed Carne, which was the short I Stand Alone was based off of. Carne is such a ferocious and raw self-examination in human behavior that watching it makes you feel as if you've just heard a disturbing story that happened right in your own neighborhood. Carne is the type of film I want to make.

Enter the Void is about a drug-dealing teen who gets killed in Japan, after which he reappears as a ghost to watch over his sister.

Go-Daddy, $300,000 and Cats With Guns

I don't know if you know, but for some reason GoDaddy.com wants to change their amazing ad campaign.  They want free-lancers to do it, like me and my friends. And they're paying handsomely.

So, some of the crew from the other commercials and myself got together and cooked up an idea that we think has a pretty good chance of winning the big prize. I can't say exactly what it is, because I don't want you to steal it, but I can say it involves cats with guns strapped to their backs.

We'll have it done September 30th.

Test Shots

I love a smooth dolly shot as much as you do, but sometimes its nice to have a little wobble. I usually prefer things to be a little rough around the edges (on purpose of course). That's why we got this little cart-thingy. Works great on hard wood!

This film is impossible to describe, or review. In fact, calling it a film throws up the very idea of what constitutes a film.
